Abstract
In this paper, the basic architecture types used to implement threshold logic gates (TLG) are described and compared with each other. Due to the fundamental differences between the presented approaches, a quantitative comparison can hardly be carried out. Hence, a qualitative characterization of the TLG solutions is used as a basement for the evaluation. Additional stress is laid on commercially employed applications. The implementations described include CMOS solutions and their enhancements, i.e. TLGs based on NULL convention and pass-transistor logic. The capacitive approach (switched capacitors and μMOS, i.e. floating gate solutions) and the conductance / current based realisations (pseudo-nMOS and output-wired inverters), together with their variations will be detailed as well. A brief outlook on future technologies for the implementation of TLG is given too.
