2012 : A PTP Implementation in OMNET++

Author(s)
Jens Steinhauser
Abstract
When devices at separate locations have to work together, synchronization of their clocks often becomes an issue. The standard IEEE 1588 de nes a protocol, called the "Precision Time Protocol", or PTP for short, for this purpose that can provide sub-microsecond accuracy. To analyze the performance of the protocol and the quality of clock synchronization that can be achieved with it, a simulation becomes handy. This work develops such a simulation and shows how it performs under various influences.
