Abstract
In modern cars the growing number of electronic control units can only be managed with real-time communication networks (specific assigned cables). By using a communication protocol the transfer of messages will be possible and transmission errors can be detected.

The Time Triggered Protocol TTP/A offers distinct advantages in the automotive body-electronics in comparison to Event Triggered Protocols. To put these advantages into action either the hardware has to prevent the faults or the protocol has to tolerate or detect the errors.

This thesis illustrates some causes for communication errors and the abilities of the physical communication-layer considering the safety. The main goal of the thesis is to show the possibilities of the protocol-layer of TTP/A that increases the reliability and safety of the whole system (by using error control codes).
